The vast majority of clients pick Friday as the day to put a website live.
Friday is possibly the worst day to choose.
Primarily it gives a hard deadline up to the weekend and that’s not a great idea.
Friday’s are days that many people take off (along with Monday’s) so availability is reduced for support and collaboration.
We tend to find people are not as focused on Fridays too. After all the weekend and wine or beer o’clock is just a few hours away.
There’s also some pretty important technical considerations that we’ll cover below.
When is the best day to put a website live?
Wednesday is best day, hands down.
When is the best time to announce it?
The following week and the Thursday morning is typically the best day to announce your launch.
Essentially what you are doing is called a ‘Soft launch’, giving yourself the required time to handle any issues and allow the site to be bedded in.
What happens in the week between putting a site live and announcing it?
A lot! Your site going live is actually a small part of the process.
The first big thing to wait for is DNS propagation. This can take upto 72 hours. You can read more about this in our post about what to expect when your website goes live.
Caching is your next hurdle. Nearly all websites are cached. This means that for a short period some people would see the old site and some the new site and in some cases visitors returning from a recent visit to the site may see a site with missing images or odd display of text and layout.
Gremlins… There’s always the post migration bug here and there to handle, so best to do this during the soft launch period.
So now you know, Wednesday is always the best day to launch a website and the following week on a Thursday to announce it.
