How we wrap up our web design projects

When working with web designers or agencies the post project wrap up varies a lot from great to not very good at all

You might receive an email to let you know the site is live along with an invoice or you might have a indepth post project meeting.

When we wrap up a design project there’s a few things we do that are appreciated by our clients and also reduce those inevitable post projects questions.

I’ll take you through what we do at Neptune Media.

We say Thank You

Sounds simple doesn’t it but so often forgotten. We’ve all been so involved in the project, so focused on delivering the final website.

We appreciate your business, so it’s just good manners to say thank you.

Send a link to the website

Now I know this sounds obvious and almost pointless, but you would be surprised how many times we get asked for the website link.

So don’t worry, we’ll send you the link to your website.

There’s a few reasons we do this, but a key one is that clients still refer to the development site link which is redundant after the site is live.

So we want to make sure you’re viewing and editing the website in the right place.

Tell you about the 72 hour window

We’re not going to bore you with the technical details of propagation you’ll be pleased to know.

What we are going to tell you is that from the moment your websites goes live it can take up 72 hours for it to be visible to everyone.

Which leads us neatly onto our next point.

Tell you what NOT to do

We know it’s exciting, we know you want to tell everyone but please don’t do that…. just yet.

Here are some of the things you shouldn’t do immediately.

  • Promote it on social media
  • Send out a big mailing list with links to it
  • Tell your clients / friends / family
  • Start actively marketing your website

Wait a full 3 days before you start to promote the site, even better wait a couple of weeks.

Our best advice is to go for a soft launch for a few weeks. This is what we call the bedding in phase and it’s useful for ironing out any post live bugs or issues.

We also have some great advice on when the best time to launch and annouce your website is and you can’t find out why Fridays are not the best day.

Ask if you would like training

We cover any training needs in our proposals and we’ll also send you some links to short tutorial videos on how to edit your website.

However, there are times when you might need some extra help and we’ve got you covered by means of a training session or creation of some training videos unique to your site.

You’ll get a link to our online calendar where you can book a time and day to suit you for a training session.

Tell you how to get support

You need to ask a question, request some work or have us look into an issue.

We’ll send you details on how to get support. We use a helpdesk that you can email directly into, this is where we manage all client requests and keep track of your account.

Give you some advice for promoting your website

Even if you have signed up to one of our digital marketing plans there are still things you can do to promote the site.

Once you have a website there’s lots of ways you can promote it and without spending a single penny in some cases.

Simple things like.

  • Adding a link to your website on your email signature
  • Adding it to your business cards
  • Adding it to any signage or vehicles

Ask for your review

We are a review driven society and we’d love a review.

It’s good to know we’re doing a great job and your review in turn helps other see that and feel confident they are doing business with a company with skills and experience that can help them too.

Isn’t this too much information?

It’s a lot to take in, don’t worry we’re not going to send all this information in one go.

We use to send out one big email covering all this, however given the small amount of questions we received about items we had covered in that email we knew not all clients were reading the email in full.

What we do now is send out a series of emails over a week, one email a day that breaks the detail down into smaller chunks.

I’d like to thank to Matt Davies at Nurture Copy for suggesting MailerLite, which we love, for our Go Live email sequencing. Matt also has a version of our email sequencing available on his website through the Nurture Club
